La Invicta offers up a great budget friendly introduction to cigars if you haven’t smoked them before.
They are produced in two different countries – the green label variants were previously manufactured in Jamaica before being made by Villazon in Honduras exclusively for the UK market. Villazon are one of the largest cigar manufacturers in Honduras.
The red label incarnations are from Nicaragua and are made by one of the biggest Nicaraguan producers, Plasencia. Which ever version you go for, you will find that they are light to medium bodied in style and quite easy smoking.
La Invicta dates back to the 1940’s to a time of various trade sanctions and currency restrictions which were imposed globally due to World War 2, one of which was the use of the American dollar.
These restrictions made it difficult to trade for products from allied countries, which included Cuban cigars. In an effort to maintain a supply of war time cigars for the UK, La Invicta, which translates as “The Undefeated” was created by cigar importer Hunters & Frankau.
Using Jamaican tobacco plus a small amount from other regions, the cigars were blended specifically for the British cigar smoker. After the war ended, the brand continued to find a following in the UK which has continued to this day.
