Founded in 1903 by 18 year old Eduardo León Jimenes in Don Pedro, a suburb of Santiago, his dream of creating a brand of extremely high quality cigars was very quickly realised.
By 1912 it became apparent that the original factory had been outgrown so new premises were found in Santiago itself and production switched to the new site. Over the next twenty or so years the company continued to grow and became more successful.
Eduardo passed away in 1937, leaving his brother Herminio to run the business and then, in 1940 Eduardo’s son, Eduardo León Asensio becomes president of the company. from the 1950’s to the late 90’s, although cigar production would continue, a lot of production was switched to cigarette manufacturing.
The late 90’s was an exciting time for La Aurora as they again started to diversify having successfully launched a beer brand in the mid 80’s – launching new brands of cigars, Rum and other products.
