Habanos SA is the company that has the responsibility for the production, manufacture and distribution of Cuban cigars. Founded in 1994, it was originally state owned with Cubatobaco and Altadis, a Spanish / French multi-national cigarette and tobacco manufacturing company.
Cubatobaco also had some foreign investment with the likes Imperial Tobacco heavily investing in the late 2000’s. A Chinese consortium recently purchased a major stake in Habanos SA, and have invested heavily to increase production.
