Dating back to the early eighteenth century, Fribourg & Treyer is one of the oldest snuff and tobacco producers in the UK. Founded in 1720 in Haymarket, London by Mr Fribourg, the company was famed for selling very high quality Turkish tobaccos.
The Treyer portion of the name was added when Gottlieb Treyer married Martha Evans whose family had bought into the business previously. Although famed for the Turkish tobaccos, it was primarily snuff that the company produced and sold with Cigars and from around 1852, cigarettes.
Although the business has been sold numerous times over the years, it is currently owned and run by Wilson’s Of Sharrow Mills, one of the UK’s preeminent snuff and pipe tobacco producers.
