Chacom itself was born out of two companies merging in 1928, but the founding family, Comoy, can trace their company history back to 1825.
It was Henri Comoy, born in 1850, who after spending time as POW during the first world war met his cousins, the Chapuis family.
Both families worked together to produce pipes and to build their businesses with the end result being a partial merger and the name Chacom being used.
Although the families produced pipes in both France and London, it was decided that the brand Chacom should be based in Saint-Claude.
After the second world war, the Chacom pipe tobaccos were introduced and become extremely popular across Europe.
