Abeja Cigars are one of the Dominican Republics’ biggest producers of cigars. La Abeja Cigar Company is owned and run by one of the few women in the cigar production part of the industry, Bienvenida Ovalles. The brand has gained a worldwide reputation for producing good quality, everyday sticks at affordable prices.
Bienvenida Ovalles owns her own factory, which is quite unique, and comes from a family of tobacco people who have a long history in the Dominican cigar industry. The Abeja factory, by all accounts, is also one of the prettiest in the Dominican, with lots of feminine touches to it.
Based in Santiago, she founded her factory in 1997 and has grown her business through sheer determination. Although Abeja is not an instantly recognisable name by any stretch of the imagination, the brands that Bienvenida produces are, such as Juliany.
