Of the many spirits specifically produced to have alongside cigars, we rank the Hermitage 15 Years Cigar Cognac among the very best. Where many of the ‘cigar spirits’ trip up is with the level of sweetness of the spirit, this in turn can sometimes, inadvertantly, make the cigar come across as a little bit bitter.
The Hermitage 15 Years Cigar Cognac is different in that it is produced in a drier style – the forest floor flavours beautifully complement yeasty tones with walnut, saffron and cocoa tailing off to a long kumquat finish.
Tasting the Partagas D4 with the Hermitage 15 Years is a delight, as the Cognac really brings out the leathery-nutty characteristics of the cigar. The Partagas is renowened for it’s full-bodied flavour, yet throughout the smoke, everything was in perfect harmony.
This is certainly one of the best combinations that I have tried – do you agree?
