Plasencia Alma Del Cielo Hexagona

The Plasencia Alma Del Cielo Hexagona is a very unique Nicaraguan Puro. Created by the extremely talented Nestor Plasencia from selected, premium tobaccos that have been grown at the San Julián farm, which at over 1300 metres above sea-level is one of the highest tobacco farms on the planet. At this height the tobacco plants receive more direct energy from the sun, but in a cooler climate, allowing the plants to grow in a much more healthy fashion.

The soils on the San Julián farm are some of the most fertile soils in Nicaragua and use water sourced from some of the purest local streams for irrigation. Added to this is Plasencia’s mantra of growing and preparing the tobaccos as organically and as natural as possible, which when combined with the soils and the water and the climate, simply creates perfect, unadulterated tobacco. For me, this gives the finished cigars a much more ‘natural’, balanced flavour profile producing great complexity and depth.

I found the Alma Del Cielo Hexagona to be a more savoury affair than say than the likes of the Alma Fuerte’s with their sweet leathery inflections. This is still quite full-bodied yet some of the subtleties shine through, like the note of cedar and of nut shells. It was only in the last third that I got some sweetness peeping out, but it was late to the party! This is not an in-your-face all guns blazing epic, but a much more refined and elegant, fuller-bodied cigar.
